AQSync:  Complete Air Monitoring Package

Picture
The AQSync is a compact and low-power monitoring station that provides fast measurements of all of the most important air pollutants, including O3, NO, NO2, CO CO2, PM1 and PM2.5, along with ambient temperature (T), pressure (P), relative humidity (RH), wind speed and wind direction.  All air pollutant measurements are optical measurements with the exception of CO, which is measured by a temperature-corrected electrochemical sensor.  Ozone is measured based on UV absorbance at 254 nm by our OEM-108-L ozone monitor.  NO2 and NO (after conversion to NO2 by reaction with O3) are measured by direct absorbance at 405 nm using the optical bench of our Model 405 nm NO2/NO/NOx Monitor.  PM1 and PM2.5 are determined by measurements using a MetOne optical particle counter, and CO2 is measured by infrared absorbance by means of a NDIR sensor.  The NO2 and O3 measurements are US EPA Federal Equivalent (FEM) methods for these two Criteria Pollutants. T, P and RH are measured along with wind speed and direction using a Response ONE 2-D sonic anemometer.  The package is housed in a rugged polymer enclosure (24 x 20 x 10 in, 61 x 41 x 25 cm) having a NEMA 4 rating for outdoor applications.  The AQSync is designed to provide the most accurate measurements the most important air pollutants using the small enough instruments to fit into a relative small and easily deployable package in outdoor environments.

The enclosure has a tamper-proof door with keyed access and can be equipped to mount on a pole of diameter 3 to 12 in (7.6 to 30.5 cm).  Supplied power is 110/220 ac and may be supplied optionally by a solar panel.  Operators can directly operate the system and change settings such as integration times, data transfer frequency and calibration factors  by accessing the user interface, either using the internal touchscreen or remotely via the cellular internet connection.  The individual measurement modules are designed to be easily removed for servicing.  Data are continuously transmitted to the web via a cellular connection, and a data logger with a removable microSD data card provides on-site data backup with more than a year of storage capacity.

The AQSync is being developed under a Phase II Small Business Innovative Grant from the National Science Foundation

Features

  • Measures O3, NO, NO2, CO, CO2, PM1, PM2.5, T, P and RH, wind speed and wind direction
  • Ozone is measured by a Model 108 miniature ozone monitor, a US EPA Federal Equivalent Method (FEM)
